Beauty in the Detour

$2,000.00

From The Interstice Collection by Payton James—Inspired by the tension between what was and what lies ahead, this collection reveals the beauty not just in what is seen, but in the gaps. Through layered textures and fragmented forms, it explores how what is left behind shapes what emerges, and how unraveling the past creates space for growth and clarity.

Painted on an upcycled bamboo shade, this 72”x72” painting embraces the unexpected turns in life—where gaps and interruptions don’t signal loss, but transformation. Sections of the bamboo have been intentionally removed, creating negative space within the landscape, a reminder that absence can be just as impactful as presence. The rich, earthy hues of acrylics blend with the natural texture of the bamboo, reinforcing the idea that even in divergence, there is harmony. The journey may not follow a straight path, but there is beauty in the places where the route changes.
